NEWS: Lars von Trier preparing to shoot THE NYMPHOMANIAC in 2012 (presumably for a 2013 Cannes debut)
during his low-key and entirely uneventful MELANCHOLIA press conference at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, filmmaker / provocateur Lars von Trier mentioned that his next film was going to be… porn. or at least porn-ish. people were quick to recoil in horror, but after the traumatic sexual acts of ANTICHRIST, von Trier returning to the land of consensual loving seems like something of a pleasant reprieve, no matter how explicit the resulting scenes might be.
the fine folks over at The Film Stage provide the details:
"Lars von Trier’s longtime producer, Peter Aalbæk Jensen, not only revealed that this will be filmed in English next summer, but also that the (unsurprisingly) explicit content will lead to two versions. One is a “hardcore” cut featuring scenes of penetration, while the other is a “softer” version that will be shown in mainstream cinemas. Jensen almost makes it sound more appealing than it’ll probably end up being; as he put it, the film is “very amusing” and “very erotic but very funny also.” At the same time, the whole thing is said to be dialogue-driven — the “youthful sexuality and graphic depiction of intercourse” are what most will only talk about, though.
Just like Dogville and Manderlay, the story will be split up into eight chapters, with titles that include “The Western and Eastern Church” and “The Little Organ School.” What really took me by surprise was the little detail that this will follow “the erotic life of a woman from the age of zero to the age of 50.”
