Under the Covers: #608 HAROLD AND MAUDE (dir. Hal Ashby) 1971
"A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They’re just backing away from life. *Reach* out. Take a *chance*. Get *hurt* even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go!""
Criterion’s long-awaited release of the beloved Hal Ashby classic Harold and Maude has most definitely worth the wait. it’s a gorgeous thing to behold, and even more gorgeous thing to crack open and explore (every time i take a peek inside the box i half expect a cat stevens song to start lilting out, like the world’s most gloriously morbid Hallmark card).
Harold and Maude hits stores tomorrow.
